For your sort of site, don’t forget you have two types of customers: people looking to BUY cars and those looking to SELL. You’d need to get a lot of both types of traffic (pardon the pun) – people will visit you to buy if there are lots of cars there and people will look to sell if there are lots of visitors! The key is to get it populated with cars for sale so yes, I would offer this for free for a period of time until you have built up momentum and then look at how you compare with existing sites both in terms of the features you offer and price.

Hi Kevin,

I am currently reading your book online-business 2nd edition and it’s very informative and interesting. Although I have a small doubt. I am looking to start a online site where customers can sell their cars etc,. but I am not sure whether I should be charging them initially. Is it a good idea to let them sell/buy for free for around 3 months and once I get a user base perhaps I should charge them? Any suggestions would be useful.

Already have your “How to set up an online business” book. Very informative and like the style of cyling through the steps involved.

I’m also a subscriber of PCPro and saw reference to this site in the September 2010 issue.

Need to take first step into microbusiness myself now. Have a few ideas but have not taken the leap yet. I hope the community you are forming here will give me the inspiration to dip my toe in the water.
